The Society for Worldwide Medical Exchange is proud to organize a series of online courses in Infectious Diseases in collaboration with Dr. Paola Lichtenberger, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami. This series of online courses will provide an update on the latest treatment and research advances in the respective topics. The courses will be directed by Dr. Lichtenberger and feature renowned experts in the field. These online courses are designed for healthcare professionals interested in Infectious Diseases and those already working in this area.

A recognized expert in the area of Infectious Diseases and Medical Education, Dr. Lichtenberger, in collaboration with a group of experts, has led efforts with the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to train physicians in Tropical Diseases. Dr. Lichtenberger has also initiated an exchange program that allows students, residents, and fellows located in the United States to experience the culture of Latin America and the Caribbean and better understand the healthcare conditions and challenges of the region. Currently, Dr. Lichtenberger is in charge of confronting the public health crisis of the Zika virus in Florida.  
 
Objectives
These courses aim to provide a foundation for healthcare professionals managing Infectious Diseases in Latin America and the Caribbean while also providing a review of the latest advances in each of the topics. Dr. Lichtenberger, along with a team of guest experts from universities and medical associations, will present current research and evidence and provide the tools necessary for the subsequent management, prevention, and control of Infectious Diseases. Each of the topics covered during the Online Course Series in Infectious Diseases represent a current public health concern in the region. Through these courses, healthcare professionals learn how to better treat their patients while applying established protocols within their clinical settings.

Methodology
The self-paced online course format allows participants to register and begin the course at any time. Registrants can complete the modules at their convenience. The courses are based on video presentations by the faculty and provide relevant documents and journal articles for conceptual support as well as presentation slides for download. Additional features include discussions between the Course Director and guest experts related to Infectious Diseases in their respective specialties and a series of live online webinars in which participants will interact directly with Dr. Lichtenberger and other experts.Through forum discussions, participants interact with experts and colleagues and are encouraged to ask questions and share their experiences. Registration includes access to all educational materials and webinar events for 1 year. The courses will be available in Spanish and Portuguese.
