Infectious Diseases Leaders Convene in Uruguay

The Society for Worldwide Medical Exchange (SWME) convened leaders from the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and the Catedra de Enfermedades Infeciousas, University of the Republic, Uruguay (UdeLaR) at the Uruguayan Medical Association in Montevideo on Monday, March 17. The group met to plan the next steps for the co-sponsored education initiative, “Hospital-Acquired Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance: Regional Course for Latin America.”

The meeting was attended by Dr. Lucia Teixeira and Connie Herndon from ASM as well as Drs. Julio Medina and Graciela Pérez Sartori from UdeLaR and other members of the program faculty. Leadership from the Fondo Nacional de Recursos of Uruguay also participated.

“Hospital-Acquired Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance: Regional Course for Latin America,” is a unique online course that will run from July to September 2014. The course will consist of 26 study hours and will be available in Spanish and Portuguese, delivered using SWME’s unique online methodology.
